Things to Think About For Storing Wine

If you have a bottle of wine that you need to store, there are a few things that you should think about, and our top tips will help with this. When storing wine, some of the most important things to think about include:

  • Temperature – what is the temperature of the room in which your wine is being stored? Wine needs to be kept at a specific temperature for best results, but at the least, it should be stored between twenty-five and sixty-eight degrees Fahrenheit. Below these temperatures, the wine can freeze; above these, the wine is likely to oxidize, which will ruin the aging process.
  • Protect from light – you must protect your wine bottles from light, especially sunlight, while the wine is being stored. This is because wine can lose its color and some of its aroma when exposed to UV light, so this should be avoided by keeping the wine somewhere dark and shaded.
  • Don’t store it somewhere that it will get disturbed! – for your bottle of wine to mature properly, it’s important that it won’t get disturbed during the maturation and aging processes. As a result of this, storing bottles of wine on top of vibrating machines such as dryers and washers – a common mistake – can actually damage the wine and prevent it from reaching its full potential during the aging process.
  • Humidity – it’s vital that the wine is stored at a humidity of between 60 and 68 percent to t it from getting damaged. Low humidity, in particular, can be especially problematic as this can dry out the cork and allow contaminants into the bottle.
